Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

Absolutely! Working with couples who have children is our sweet spot, but is not a requisite to work with us.

No. As long as you are willing to pay our fee and are a nice human to work with, we are happy to work with you

No. With our Advice-Only model Alta Via does not manage assets, and therefore does not require you to move your accounts to one custodian (e.g. Vanguard, Fidelity, etc). However we may recommend that you move some of your accounts in order to simplify and make managing your finances easier.

A fiduciary is someone who has only your best interests in mind, and not their own. As we do not (and will not ever) sell products or receive commissions of any kind, we are not incentivized in the recommendations we make to clients. We are an independent “fee-only” firm, which means that our only compensation comes from the fees paid directly to us by our clients.

We follow a passive investment philosophy that does not attempt to beat market returns. Our approach involves holding investments for the long-term, and not trying to “guess” what the market is going to do in the short-term. We recommend investing in a diversified portfolio containing low-cost index funds and exchange-traded funds (ETFs), and maximizing returns by reducing costs and taxes that you will pay over the course of your lifetime.

We do not have dedicated office space, and therefore the majority of our meetings are virtual. However we are open to occasional in-person meetings in NE Seattle and Snoqualmie Pass.

Yes! We are located in Seattle, but can work virtually with anyone in the US.

We have extensive experience with clients who work for Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Boeing, Meta, GitHub, Expedia, T-Mobile, Lyft, Gates Foundation, and many more.

We use software applications that are almost exclusively web-based, multi-factor authentication when available, and bit-locker to encrypt our firm hardware. Firm policies of our software providers can be found in the links below.
